One Held Door Can Defeat a Secure Perimeter
A familiar face, delivery, urgent request or polite gesture can make unauthorised entry feel harmless. Yet every controlled door is part of the site security barrier, and allowing someone to follow without verification removes the opportunity to confirm identity, purpose and access rights. Good security is respectful and consistent: every person uses the approved entry process, and uncertainty is referred rather than guessed.
Controls to confirm
- Use your own authorised credential at every controlled entry, prevent tailgating and never lend, share or bypass access devices for convenience.
- Politely challenge or refer anyone without visible authorisation to security, confirming identity and purpose through the approved process rather than accepting familiarity, uniform or urgency as proof.
- Keep doors, gates and readers secure, report forced, propped or malfunctioning access points immediately, and maintain visitor escort and sign-out requirements until the person leaves the controlled area.

During today’s first site walk, inspect one controlled entrance and confirm that the door closes, the reader works and everyone entering completes the approved verification process.
