Fatigue and Fitness for Work
Fit for Work Means Ready to Notice What Changes
Fatigue can narrow attention, slow decisions and make familiar work feel easier than it really is. Fitness for work is not only about arriving for the shift; it means being able to stay alert, follow the plan and recognise when conditions change. Teams should make it normal to speak up early when tiredness, workload or reduced concentration could affect safe performance.
Controls to confirm
- Check personal alertness and task demands before starting safety-critical or high-consequence work.
- Use planned breaks, task rotation and effective handovers to manage sustained workload and reduced concentration.
- Pause the task and inform the supervisor when fatigue or loss of focus could affect a safe decision.
Today’s action
Before the most demanding task today, confirm that each person is alert, understands the next step and is comfortable speaking up.
