A Photo Can Become a Site Map for Someone You Never Met
A routine work image can reveal more than its subject: badges, control screens, equipment tags, access points, layouts, schedules, personnel and location data may all be visible. Once the image is posted publicly or sent through an unapproved channel, control of that information can be lost. Safe photography requires an authorised purpose, a deliberate check of the full frame and metadata, and approved release before sharing.
Controls to confirm
- Capture photos or video only for an authorised work purpose, in permitted areas and with the required approval; obey restrictions covering control rooms, security systems, screens, documents, people and incidents.
- Before storing or sharing, inspect the entire frame for badges, faces, asset tags, alarms, permits, access routes, maps and other sensitive details; use the approved redaction process and remove location metadata where required.
- Store and send site media only through approved business systems and to authorised recipients; never post it publicly or to a personal account without formal release, and report accidental sharing or a lost device immediately.
