Security Access Closure After Work Completion
A Finished Job Must End Its Access
Contractor, visitor and temporary access often receives close attention at mobilisation but less scrutiny when the work ends. A badge, shared code, remote account, key or vehicle pass that remains active after demobilisation becomes an unmonitored route back into the site or its information systems. Close access as a deliberate part of job completion, not as an administrative task to catch up later.
Controls to confirm
- Assign an accountable sponsor and a defined expiry to every temporary physical and digital access permission; avoid shared credentials and privileges that extend beyond the approved work scope.
- Before demobilisation is accepted, recover badges, keys, passes and controlled documents, disable remote and system access, and record any item that cannot be accounted for for immediate security action.
- Reconcile the leaver list against active access records and recent access logs, confirm closure independently, and investigate any use attempted after the authorised end time.
