The workplace should support continuity without turning private medical details into general operational information: clinical decisions belong with qualified health professionals, while leaders ensure the agreed work controls remain available.
Controls to confirm
- Use the approved confidential health route to keep relevant medication, allergies, emergency information and clinical follow-up current; workers should seek clarification from a qualified healthcare professional when instructions conflict or change.
- Have occupational health or another designated competent clinician assess fitness for work and any necessary adjustments, then communicate only the operational controls that supervisors need while protecting confidential medical information.
- Plan continuity across travel, rotations and shift changes by confirming access to prescribed treatment, monitoring, appointments and emergency support; escalate through the approved route before a gap creates a health or task-safety risk.
